Setting the Standards for Sustainability: MAKAL becomes a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council
PRESS RELEASE: March 23, 2022.
The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has announced that MAKAL Jewellery, the luxury brand pioneering the highest standards for the use of natural gold nuggets and raw gemstones in their contemporary jewellery design, has completed the auditing process to achieve this esteemed certification.
Being certified by RJC for Responsible Jewellery means completing a rigorous examination of all aspects of MAKAL’s operations: right from the first extraction and sourcing of each material to the processes used in the manufacturing studio in Italy and final packaging. The certification extends to other business areas including Human Rights, Responsible Supply Chain and Labour Rights, as well as how MAKAL creates Social Impact in the community at the source of MAKAL’s materials. This new RJC membership status confirms MAKAL’s dedication to both responsible sourcing and sustainable business practices, operations and core strategy, through a continuous effort towards improvement.
Daniela Colaiacovo, co-founder and CEO of MAKAL, spoke about what the certification means for the company operation:
“It is a great accomplishment and symbol of the good work we have done. Being a small jewellery business, the strict certification process has been a big effort for us, but I am super proud that we have received this prestigious validation for our genuine commitment to responsible practices.”
Iris Maria Alexis Van der Veken, Executive Director of RJC spoke about
MAKAL’s certification: “‘I would like to congratulate MAKAL on their certification. We work in an industry of beauty and emotions – connecting hearts and minds. Consumers always expect trust when they buy a piece of jewellery to celebrate a significant moment in their lives. In this era of trust and resilience, now more than ever there is a need for more companies to take action and commit towards a journey of purpose, and continuous improvement. RJC supports its members in an integrated approach of best management practices to sustainability. We welcome their leadership and commitment towards responsible business practices.”
In applying the RJC certification system, MAKAL and all its suppliers have adopted management policies and systems that guarantee the respect of the RJC principles.
